„Where do you go?“ asked me the customer officer at the boarder crossing by entering Croatia. „To Africa“ i answered. He started laughing very loud, gave me my passport back and just said: „Good Luck!“.
After some few hours i reached Zagreb- the capital of Croatia. From the beginning i was overwhelmed by this city. The Mirogoj is the biggest cementry of Zagreb. I needed more than 1 hour for cycling through the hole area.
I decided to cycle along the Sava river. Directly in Sisak, the first town after Zagreb, i had a fantastic encounter. Actually i wanted to visit the fortress of Sisak. Shortly after i got there, a bike group arrived as well. Immediately they invited me for a free guide followed by eating pizza. Ksenija, a member of the group, organized all the remaining nights for me in Croatia. I was overwhelmed!
The road along the Sava river passes through the Lonjsko polje national park. Many endangered birds (White and Black Stork, Spoonbill, Night Heron and Lesser Spotted Eagle) use this Parc as their breeding area.
In Jasenovac i visited the museum about the concentration camp and the monument. In the Second world war the Ustascha erected here the biggest concentration- and extermination camp in the fascist independent State of Croatia (NDH).
On the way to Nova Gradiška i was invited by Marko and his wife.
The next two nights were my greatest in Croatia. Both times i could join the night in a place which Ksenija had organized for me. Together with my host in Slavonski Brod i visited the fortress Brod. Thereafter it was time to say goodbye. Hvala Hrvatska!
